Are you an apple or a pear? If you are a pear, your pear shaped body collects fat mostly in the thighs, hips and buttocks. If you are an apple, your apple shaped body collects fat mostly in the waist. Apple people are more at risk for diabetes and heart disease. Apple people also have what is called spare tires or love handles around the waist.
What is a six pack?
A six pack refers to your rectus abdominis or abdominal muscles. When your abs are ripped and defined, separate muscles can be seen under your skin. A six pack, sometimes referred to as washboard abs, is a sign of low body fat, healthy living, regular exercise and sex appeal. With summer and bathing suit season just a few months away it is not too soon to start thinking about losing that belly fat and toning up those abs. According to health specialists and physical trainers, the most often asked question is “how do I get rid of belly fat?” The answer is simple but the implementation might not be so simple. Eat right and exercise regularly is the answer most often given. It is easier said than done for most folks.
Exercise, Exercise, Excersie
The first thing you need to do is get yourself on a regular exercise program. It has to be more than 20 or 30 minutes a week. An effective exercise program needs to include strength training, aerobic and cardiovascular workout 4 to 6 times per week at 30 to 60 minute intervals each time. Your goal is to maximize your metabolic response to exercise. Just doing sit ups, leg lifts and stomach crunches are not all that effective for losing belly fat but done in conjunction with a cardio exercise such as brisk walking or running will help.
The Right Diet Is A Major Plus
Diet is a big part of losing weight. To lose body fat requires expelling more calories than you take in. Increase your intake of fat burning foods such as those high in protein. It takes more energy to burn protein than it does to burn fat. Refined carbohydrates cause fat to build around your waist. Minimize the buildup of fat by eliminating as much as possible refined carbohydrates. Eating smaller, less calorie laden meals 4 to 6 times per day is better for your metabolism than eating 3 meals per day. Eating more fiber, such as oatmeal, fruits and vegetables will fill your body with fuel without adding a lot of calories and fat.
No Easy Answer
There is no easy, magical miracle cure to lose belly fat and tone up your abs. It is the result of a consistent combination of proper diet and exercise. Results will not happen overnight. It will take a little bit of time and require some patience before results are seen. But if you have a plan in place for the long term and stick to it, you will stay in great shape and have a body others will envy.
